Clinical Features of Acute Hepatitis A during Recent 5 Years at A Single Medical Center in Daegu

One of the major causes of recent acute viral hepatitis in Korean adult is hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features of acute hepatitis A in Daegu province. Tatally 110 cases, who were diagnosed as acute hepatitis A between August 2004 and July 2009, were reviewed retrospectively. The mean age of the
patients was 29 year old. The numbers of hepatitis A patient have increased during the recent five years in Daegu area. There was no significant statistical relation between age and severity of the disease. The average admission time was 11.3 days. As the numbers of symptomatic hepatitis A patient in adult have increased, the numbers of patient who needed admission have been increasing. It can be the cause of vast socioeconomic expenses. Therefore, it is necessary to
investigate about the indications for hepatitis A vaccination throughout Korea.
